FLINTHILLS AND PRAIRIES
THROUGH BROOKLANDS SCREENS
On June 24th, 2007, I drove a 75 mile stretch of Kansas Highway 177 from El Dorado, Kansas to Strong City, Kansas in a 1949 MG-TC. The pictures below were taken that day. I grew up in the small town of El Dorado, Kansas, so these pictures are very personal to me. This is the largest single gallery on my web site! I had driven this road many times before, starting when I was only 16 years old. I would like to dispel the myth that Kansas is flat and boring! Yes! Certainly, some parts of the state are, but Kansas is a state with a very rich pioneer history. It is a state with great beauty, majestic rolling hills, with prairies and wheat fields that simply go on and on. A lot of history took place along this 70 mile drive. Among other things it was near the small town of Matfield Green where on March 31, 1931 the great football coach Knute Rockne was killed in an airplane crash. There is a beautiful Court House in Cottonwood Falls. Please ride along with me on this trip.
