Peta Snyder

who is a real MG Lady!

Peta and her brother Bobby - Brooklands - 1938

How this happened - Click here

Peta is about to celebrate her 90th birthday and had breakfast with us yesterday

(May 1, 2009) at Patty Jewett Golf Course in Colorado Springs.

---------------------

Peta spent much of her youth racing around England with her brother in a P-type MG. She married an American and has lived on this side of the pond now for more than 50 years.

---------------------

This was a very special breakfast for both our Little British Car Association and for Peta. She shared with us a wonderful slide show of Pictures from the 1930's.

---------------------

After the breakfast our own Bob Rich very kindly consented to show Peta his two early MG's. Both from 1932 Bob has a J-2 and an L-Type.

---------------------

Also in attendance at the breakfast was Peta's friend Eileen, Peta's daughter and her nephew.

---------------------

ARRIVAL & MEETING

"Gentleman" Jim Goodwin and his beautiful red 1948 TC was Peta's escort for the morning. First we see Jim arriving and as all of us gentlemen do, he waited. Finally Peta arrived and they met, and Jim helped her into his car. This was probably the fist time in many many years that Peta had sat in the left (passenger) seat of an MG! What a thrill for all of us!

Peta's friend Eileen was on hand to help Peta prepare for her sporting adventure. Then a very happy couple departed for the Golf Course.

ARRIVAL AT PATTY JEWETT

The day was cloudy and just a bit nippy. The drive down the tree lined lane must have reminded Peta of a time long ago when she could have ridden down a similar lane with her brother in England.

BREAKFAST

For some reason the restaurant never seems to be prepared for us, so we just rearrange things and generally act like the place belongs to us. The club house has a bit of an English atmosphere about it.

Jim Goodwin, ever the gentleman, serves Peta coffee, and Peta posed for a picture with her daughter.

While we were waiting for our food we were treated to a wonderful slide show, put together by Peta's friend Eileen. Here is a link to the pictures:

Peta's old MG pictures!

After breakfast and a wonderful slide show it was time to go driving again. Eileen walks Peta back out to Jim's beautiful TC and everyone says their goodbye's (for now)!

What a day!

HAPPY 90th BIRTHDAY PETA!

WE WILL DO THIS AGAIN!

HOW THIS HAPPENED!

I received an email from Bill Dudley with the MG Car Club - Rocky Mountain Center. Bill had been contacted by a lady by the name of Eileen. Eileen indicated in her contact with Bill that she had an elderly friend who had spent a lot of time prior to WWII racing around England with her brother in his MG. Eileen wanted to surprise her friend, Peta Snyder with a ride in a vintage MG. This was to be a surprise birthday gift for Peta.

Bill sent an email to the MGCC membership and ask if anyone in Colorado Springs could help Eileen with her request. When I got the email I immediately called Jim Goodwin and told him about it. My car is still in pieces, but I knew Jim would enjoy doing this. I later contacted Eileen and got contact information from her. I told her about our Friday morning breakfast and she loved the idea. I passed that on to Jim and they set up the time and made the rest of the arrangements.

Also worthy of note was that Al Wulf and his wife drove down from Denver to join us for this great event. Jim wants to do it again, and so do I! I guess I am going to have to hurry up and get my TC together.

Thanks to everyone!

Bud
