Hello All;
I decided to build myself a Toe In Gauge for the MG-TC.
On the left side of the gauge is an upright post with a 3/8 bolt in it. This
side is fixed.
On the right side of the gauge is an identical upright post with a adjustable
3/8 bolt. On this side I used a 3/8 X 16 bolt since it is 1/16th of an inch per
revolution.
Between the two post is a rod. Bolted into the base on the left side and
adjustable on the right side.

Here is how it works;
- Place the car on a smooth flat surface like a concrete floor.
- Place the gauge on the floor behind the front tires.
- Place a piece of tape on the outside sidewall of the left tire. This is
the point where all measuring takes place. The tape should also be at the
same height on the tire as the center of the knock off.
- Slide the gauge into place with the fixed bolt on the left post just
touching the tape on the tire.
- Adjust the screw on the right post all the way out as it appears in the
last picture.
- Adjust the base of the right post on the rod so that the end of the
adjustable bolt is just touching the outside sidewall of the tire in the
same relative position as the fixed bolt on the left side.
- Lay the entire gauge over on its side and slide out from under the car.
- Roll the car forward until the tape is at the same height as it was at the
rear. (1/2 revolution of the tire.)
- Place the gauge in front of the tires with the bolt on the left post just
touching the tape spot on the tire, and the right post at the same relative
point it was on the outside sidewall of the right tire.
- Turn the adjustable bolt until it just touches the outside sidewall of the
right tire. Count the revolutions of the adjustable bolt, remembering that
each revolution is 1/16th of an inch. Three turns equals 3/16" and four
turns equals 1/4".
- Adjust the tie rod as necessary and re-measure as necessary until you have
achieved the desired 3/16" to 1/4" Toe In.
If anyone has any desire to build themselves a gauge similar to the one
pictured please contact me for directions and materials. I would also be happy
to furnish more detailed pictures if that would help. This gauge could be used
to check and adjust the toe in on other cars besides the TC. One would
simply have to adjust the distance between the post and would need to adjust the
height of the bolts by drilling and threading new holes at the appropriate
heights for the tire size.
