TWO LATHES FOR SALE: I have bought a 12 X 20 lathe and do not have room for three lathes. The 12 X 20 will do all that these smaller ones will do, except the milling. I have found that I do not use the milling enough to justify it. Your needs may be different. ============================================================================================= "Smithy" The first one is called a “Smithy”, it is a combination lathe and milling machine. It comes with all the accessories and gears that it originally came with plus a bit of tooling. I have owned and used this machine for the past 8 years and it is in very good condition. This one has a mobile cart which is optional. Price is $1500. The Smithy will cut both left and right hand threads. This one has been replaced by the manufacturer with a newer model. The current version of this lathe sells for $2795. Here is a link to the Smithy website: (Smithy). Please note that I am including this for comparison only. This machine is similar to the Model Classic 1324 but not the same. The following picture is a thumbnail. Click on it to enlarge. ============================================================================================= 9 X 20 Lathe The second one is a 9X12 lathe. This one is Chinese made, but for the price and for what it does, it is a very nice little lathe. This is the same lathe with a different name that Harbor Freight sells for $999. (Harbor Freight 9 X 20) I have added a quick change tool post, which required some machining and cost a bit over $100. I have also added a reverse feed gear. Here is a link to adding the reverse feed gear: This allows you to cut left hand threads. Most of the small 9 X 12 lathes, like the aforementioned Harbor Freight model, will not do this without being modified as this one is. This also comes with all the accessories that it originally came with and a bit of tooling. Price is $850 or best offer. It really is a very nice little lathe. This one is several years old, but has had very little use. Parts and accessories are readily available. This comes with a stand. It also comes with all its original accessories, like the steady rest, the follow rest, gears, etc. There is even a web email group that supports this lathe. The improvements already made to this one make it a really great value compared to the price of a new one. The following picture is a thumbnail. Click on it to enlarge. If you have any interest and would like to see or run either one, please let me know. Both machines can be run and used at this time. |
